The extreme North of the 'Corbières'

Between Narbonne and Carcassonne, the « Montagne d’Alaric » is a landmark one cannot miss from the motorway, at the extreme North of the Corbières.

In Douzens, at the foot of the mountain, Domaine Py is an old family property where Jean Pierre started elaborating his own Cuvees in 2003.

Major investments were made for the wine making : destemmers, pneumatic press, stainless steel vat, revamping of the old concrete vats. The last touch was a temperature controlled barrique cellar.

Advice

Two different types of vineyards and soils : clay and limestone, or clay and gravel.

The vineyards face South to Southeast.
The vines are between 30 and 90 years old. Average yield is 35 Hl / ha.

Syrah 60%
Carignan 25%
Mourvedre 10%
Grenache 5%
0%

Harvesting is done by hand. Traditional maceration with punching of the cap.
Long maceration, up to 25 days. Each varietal and parcel is vinified separately. Maturation in new oak barrique for syrah and one year old for carignan.

Serve at 18 / 19°C.

The wine needs some air or decanting prior to being able to complement elaborate dishes, where its subdued power and complexity will show at their best.
